Classroom Policies & Procedures

Take Home Folders

Your child's take home folder is a great communication tool! Please make sure to check and empty your child's take home folder each night. You will find their homework, behavior log, completed school work, and other information from the school and district. You may use your child's folder to send any notes such as transportation changes or health forms to school as well. It's important that your child have their take home folder every day!

Virtual Backpack

Nearly all school, district and community information will be communicated  through the virtual backpack. You will also find flyers regarding events hosted by the PTO in the virtual backpack as well. We are encouraged to limit the amount of paper communication in an effort to stay green. Please check the backpack regularly to stay in touch with what's going on in our district!

Birthdays

If you would like to have your child bring in something special for their birthday, only school appropriate, non-food items such as pencils, stickers, crazy straws, etc. will be allowed.  If you are unsure whether an item is school appropriate, please contact your child's teacher

Homework

Homework is a good opportunity for your child to practice the skills they are learning at school. Each night second graders should be reading or read to for at least 20 minutes. Math homework will be sent home a few nights a week. Please check your child's folder daily to see if there is math homework for the night. The expectation is that homework is returned to school the following day. We understand that lives get busy so if for some reason your child cannot complete their homework assignment, please let your teacher know.

Library Checkout

Your class will have library checkout once a week during their learning center time. During this time your child will get to checkout books from the Ivy Hall library! We encourage kids to check out books that they can read, but sometimes it's fun to get books that adults have to help us read, too! Your child must return their books in order to get new books. If a book gets lost or goes missing, you will be asked to cover the cost to replace the book.

We will have snack each day. Your child is welcome to bring a snack (in addition to their lunch) to have during snack time. Please keep in mind all snacks in the classroom must be from the approved snack list.

Water bottles are allowed in the classroom. It is helpful if your child can bring a water bottle with a pop or flip top opposed to a screw top. This helps us avoid spills.

Absences

It is expected that your child is at school every day. A lot of what we do in the classroom is hands-on and cannot be replicated outside of school. If for some reason your child is unable to be at school please call the office and let them know. It is also helpful to send an email to the classroom teacher. If your child is planning on being absent for a lengthy amount of time, work will not be sent home in advance.
